The values I stand by as a woman in business

1. Crying easily is a superpower
If you’re someone like me who wells up with the most subtle of triggers, then this is your superpower. The reason for this sudden and extreme emotion is that our brains can process the feelings and tensions in the room significantly faster than others. This is often viewed as a weakness, but it is actually an extraordinary strength because we can tell the temperature of the conversation and come to a decision or action faster than those who are not triggered. I used to be embarrassed by it, often going out of my way to avoid teary situations, but these days I understand its value and embrace it.
2. Don't pretend to know everything
Showing vulnerability with a gap in your knowledge isn’t a weakness; it’s a sign of self-awareness and an acknowledgement to the people around you that the environment you’re in is a safe place to share and learn. Nothing is built alone; contribute what you can to the team and grow together.
3. Ask the stupid question
If you have a question, ask it. Everyone in the room will be better off learning or clarifying the answer together. If someone asks a question that's obvious to you, answer it with generosity. Remember that there was once a time you didn’t know the answer either.
4. Take a chance on people just starting out
Every business started with just one sale, just one client, just one collaboration. Good ideas can come from anywhere. The best idea should win, not the idea from the most senior person.
5. Empathy and kindness come first always
Because anything less is not how I would like to be treated.
